Tip Calculator
Calculate a tip, or split the bill between any number of people.
How Tips Are Calculated
A tip is a percentage of the bill added on top as a thank-you for service. In the United States it's customary for restaurants, bars, and many personal services; the standard range is 15-20%, with 20% common for good table service.
tip = bill × (percent ÷ 100)
Splitting the check just divides the bill-plus-tip total evenly across the group. Example: an $80 bill with an 18% tip adds $14.40, for a total of $94.40 — split four ways, that's $23.60 per person. Use the Tip Calculator tab above for a quick tip amount on a solo bill, or Split the Check when you're dividing it among a group.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I tip?
In the United States, 15-20% of the pre-tax bill is standard for restaurant service, with 20% common for good service. Tipping norms vary by country and by type of service.
How do you calculate a tip?
Multiply the bill amount by the tip percentage divided by 100. For example, a 20% tip on a $50 bill is 50 × 0.20 = $10.
Should I tip before or after tax?
Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is the traditional standard, though many people simplify by tipping on the total including tax, which results in a slightly larger tip.
